It is estimated that the average Canadian gives about 0.73 percent of their income to various charities each year. This goes for those working blue-collar jobs in small towns in Manitoba to those living in the penthouse of a place like 10 Delisle Avenue. This is compared with the more than 850,000 people in Canada who visit the Food Bank of Canada each month to help them with the basic needs of life. And this is just one of the many charities that a person living in this country can choose to donate to. While most of us feel the tug to give back to our community and those throughout the world from time to time, it's not so simple to decide where your money should go.
There are literally millions of charities out there asking for your extra money. Some might come right to the door of your Leslieville real estate and ask you to sign up to sponsor a child or donate money for a charity event while others will run commercials on television or entire awareness telethons to help them raise the funds that they need. Most of these sound like worthy causes but there are few people who can afford to donate to every organization that seems to deserve support. But there are ways to choose the right charity for you.
Whether you're working with youth in Prince Edward Island real estate or have a child who is in an extended arts high school in British Columbia, there are going to be some issues that affect you more than others. You are likely to continue supporting an organization year after year if you are passionate about the work that they are doing. So, whether you're interested in working towards a cure for a disease or in creating more of a Canadian culture for future generations, find something that you can really get behind.
You should always do what you can to find out where the money that you're giving is actually going. While it may seem easier to donate to larger organizations that work overseas in third world companies, you might find out that their size forces them to spend a large percentage of their donations on administrative fees, advertising, and employee salaries. You might be better to find a more independent organization that's working with troubled youth right in Plano real estate or makes monthly trips right to the African orphanage they are sponsoring to buy and distribute supplies. This could allow you to see exactly where each of your dollars are being spent.
There are many experts working in finance and with charitable organizations that suggest the average person should give three percent of their income after taxes to charity. But if after paying for your unit in Toronto condos or for the basic necessities for yourself you find that you are not able to do this there is no reason to feel guilty. Giving something is always better than giving nothing at all.
